The Final Round | Fury goading Usyk with Joshua talk

🇬🇧

Weeks after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua has been offered another heavyweight title shot by Tyson Fury.

Fury called out Joshua on social media and the former WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion appeared to accept the proposal.

But will the fight happen? This week on The Final Round, Gareth A Davies addressed that issue and more.

Gareth said: “Of course it can happen. It’s a massive fight. But obviously, Anthony Joshua is just coming off a loss a couple of weeks ago, in Saudi Arabia, to Oleksandr Usyk.

“Tyson Fury’s playing his cards. If the deal isn’t going ahead with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title, he’s offering himself up to Anthony Joshua.

“I don’t think it’ll happen. It’s a nice little ruse. I think it gets the juices flowing between the teams of Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury. You can see that Tyson Fury, in his video, tagged Bob Arum, Top Rank, Frank Warren and AJ.

“Look, if it does happen it’ll come out of the blue. But I think AJ’s got to win a fight first. But you can never write anything off in boxing. We always expect the unexpected.

“But I think it’ll get the Usyk machine oiled, and I think we will get Tyson Fury against Oleksandr Usyk. And I think it’ll be next year. And I think Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will eventually meet next year.”

Another heavyweight bout Gareth thinks might be on the cards is Andy Ruiz Jr, who inflicted a first defeat on AJ, against Deontay Wilder.

Ruiz beat Luis Ortiz last weekend, and that could open the door to a meeting with the ‘Bronze Bomber’.

“[Ruiz] has put himself back in a kind of title contention,” Gareth added.

“Maybe he fights Deontay Wilder next? That’s a fight we’d all like to see.

“But Deontay Wilder’s got to come through Robert Helenius first, which I think he will comfortably. I think he’ll knock Helenius out.”

This weekend sees a mouth-watering women’s middleweight title fight at the O2 Arena as Savannah Marshall takes on Claressa Shields.

“It’s a culmination of a 10-year rivalry,” Gareth said. “I think it’s a fantastic fight.

“Marshall has got incredible power having knocked out so many of her opponents.

“But Shields is very resilient. I think Marshall will get hit more than she’s ever been hit in this fight.

“I just think those 10 two-minute rounds will go very quickly. Shields is the volume puncher and I think that’ll be enough to take her to victory. I’m going Shields on points.”
