We started the season hot with 11/1 and 15/1 BTTS accumulator winners but we’ve cooled off in recent weeks. Hopefully we can turn the heating on and start to warm-up with this 20/1 sixfold for Saturday’s matches…
We start our Saturday BTTS Accumulator column at Old Trafford where in recent times, life has not exactly been going swimmingly for supporters of the club. What they do have going for them is back-to-back clean sheets, including shutting out this Crystal Palace side just this week in the Carabao Cup.
I’m not one for bigging up the importance of a cup match however and even keeping Burnley away from scoring shouldn’t be much to write home about. Outside of those two games, the only other time this season Erik ten Hag’s men have kept the opposition out was in that game against Wolves where Gary O’Neil’s side carved United open at will but were unable to score.
Roy Hodgson’s side aren’t the most freescoring in the league but they have fast skillful players, the type that can hurt teams on the break and with the home side being relatively porous in front of their own fans in recent times, this has BTTS written all over it.
Down into the Championship where no fewer than nine teams have a 75% Both Teams to Score record through eight games. That is high and indicates that games have been relatively open in this division so far this season.
My first pick is up at Huddersfield in a game that is more of a gut feel play than buoyed by inflated statistics. Darren Moore will be taking charge of the Terriers for the first time at home since his appointment, taking over from the very popular Neil Warnock.
It therefore goes without saying that it’ll be a good atmosphere at the John Smith’s Stadium and the home fans will want to show their support for the new man.
Ipswich have been very impressive since gaining promotion and Kieran McKenna’s side have scored in every game, in every competition, so far in the early goings of the 23/24 season, including seven goals in their past 180 minutes of football. During those two games, they’ve also conceded five. All signs point to both sets of fans having at least one moment of celebration on Saturday.
Two clubs at 75% meet at Deepdale where Preston North End will be looking to keep up their impressive home record. I have included this game in my Saturday Accumulator Tips column as well, so I clearly see PNE winning and BTTS (which is actually available to back as a 4/1 single with us at Betfred).
Ryan Lowe’s side have scored in every game so far and have only kept two clean sheets, on the road of bottom-of-the-table Sheffield Wednesday and at Stoke. So in all four home league games, they’ve won and conceded. All four games finished 2-1.
That type of run can’t go on forever but the Baggies have only failed to score once on their travels, in a 0-0 draw at Bristol City. So this bizarre little run of 2-1 wins has every chance of continuing and therefore I like BTTS.
Second gut feel play of the day comes from Salford City where the home side are on a run that will make manager Neil Wood start looking over his shoulder to see if the axe is going to be wielded from above.
Salford’s last victory in the league was on August 19, where they travelled over to Merseyside and came away with a 3-4 win from Tranmere Rovers. Since that day they have lost five straight and are starting to sink like a stone. They have scored in three of those games but this selection, as I said, is about gut feel rather than stats.
Newport County make the trip up from Wales on a six-game run where Both Teams to Score has been a winner. Even in two heavy defeats from their past three games, they’ve managed to score on both occasions in games that have finished 4-1.
Neither team has won in the month of September and It is getting to the point where desperation is starting to sink in and that will lead to either, a very tense and nervy defensive game or one where both teams just open up and try to get the win. I’m plumping for the latter.
Wrexham have been a darling of this column so far this season but they have actually gone back-to-games where BTTS has not been a winner. They got humped 5-0 at Stockport before bouncing back with a 3-0 home win against Grimsby.
This week they are back at the Racecourse Ground where Crewe Alexandra visit with their 89% record of both scoring and conceding in a game. Only a 1-0 defeat at Bradford has stopped them from a 100% record in this statistic and when you couple that with the record of Wrexham, who have scored 20 but let in the same amount through nine league games, it becomes patently obvious why they are part of this accumulator.
Last up we take the trip down to the National League where two of the top teams face-off at Hayes Lane, Bromley. This is 5th vs 4th in the league and both teams have secured 13 points from their previous five games, so plenty of good form should be on show.
Gateshead are the joint-highest scorers in the league with 31, which is the same as top-of-the-table Chesterfield. The hosts are not on that level but they have found the back of the net in eight straight.
I like this to be a good game and I’ll always take Gateshead to score and with Bromley themselves scoring with regularity recently, give me BTTS to round off our Saturday sixfold.
