Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has delivered a message to his leaders. The Spanish coach seems open to the arrival of new players in January.

Premier League leaders Arsenal have said goodbye to the League Cup. On Wednesday, the Gunners lost at the Emirates Stadium against Brighton and Hove Albion (1-3), as part of the third round. After the meeting, Mikel Arteta presented himself at the microphone of Sky Sports. The opportunity for the Spanish coach to send a strong message to his management as the winter transfer window approaches.

“We let players go”

The London technician thus explained that his workforce was quantitatively limited and opened the door to the arrival of new players next January. “It’s the team we have (…) It’s the same team as when we win. I said from day one that we had a small team because in the end we let players go. That’s what we have. If everyone is available and no one is hurt, everything is fine, but the time has come, we know what it is. It’s not new. I think I said it the first day after the transfer window.

Among the major departures, those of Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette or even Bernd Leno. Last summer, the club from the London capital spent in the direction of arrivals more than 130 million euros with the transfers of Gabriel Jesus (52.20 million euros), Oleksandr Zinchenko (35 million euros) and Fabio Vieira (35 million euros). Thanks in particular to this recruitment, the results are up to now, and even beyond. At the top of the English championship with two lengths ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League after completing the group stage in first place in Group A.
