Luton Town lost to Brighton in their opener back in the top-flight and they travel to Stamford Bridge for a 20:00 kick-off on Friday evening to take on a Chelsea side who have plenty of issues of their own.
Chelsea have embarked on another spending spree this summer and brought in manager Mauricio Pochettino in an effort to turn their fortunes around following a disappointing season last time out.
However, many of their old problems reared their head in the 3-1 defeat they suffered against West Ham last Sunday, so they will welcome what is, on paper, one of the easier fixtures of the campaign as they host the Hatters.
Luton’s return to the Premier League for the first time since 1992 ended unhappily as they were thumped 4-1 by Brighton, before having to postpone their second game as improvements to Kenilworth Road are completed.
The Hatters face a tough assignment in their next fixture, visiting Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea.
However, this could be the best time possible to play the Blues, who have looked like a team still in transition in their first two games.
New manager Pochettino is overseeing a squad with a number of new players thanks to the club’s spending spree since their takeover and he looks unsure of his best team at present.
His team were beaten 3-1 by West Ham last weekend despite the Hammers finishing the game with ten men after Nayef Aguerd was given his marching orders.
Sloppy defending cost the Blues in that game and British record signing Moises Caicedo had a debut to forget as he gave away a late penalty, which Lucas Paqueta converted.
Chelsea also struggled to deal with the Irons’ set-piece efforts and their counter attacking abilities, as highlighted by Aguerd’s headed goal and Michail Antonio’s second-half strike.
Those are the two elements of the visitors’ attacking game that are particularly strong and they are likely to try and take advantage of any Chelsea weaknesses in those areas.
Both teams have scored in the Blues’ last four Premier League games and the same is fancied in this match-up.
Pochettino’s men still look vulnerable at the back and Town may be able to take advantage, they had moments against Brighton and their strengths could be set up to expose the home side’s issues at the back.
However, the home team should have too much going forward for the visitors, who are fancied to struggle once more against Premier League attacks.
Back both teams to score in a Chelsea win is my suggestion.
