Can Lautaro Martinez keep up goalscoring run?

One of Europe’s truly great games takes centre stage on Saturday as the Milan derby sees the only two teams with perfect records in Serie A meet at San Siro, with kick-off at 5pm. Inter Milan are the nominated home team for this one, and we’ve taken a look at one of the most intriguing fixtures the continent has to offer to find a betting angle.

Match Odds:

In the Milan Derby at the San Siro, it is the nominated home side who are the betting favourites. Inter Milan are available to back at 23/20 with the draw priced up at 5/2 and AC priced up at 5/2. The Betfred traders believe it will be a low-scoring affair with both sides of the over/under 2.5 market 5/6. BTTS is just about expected with Yes at 8/11 and No an even-money choice.

Team news:

Lautaro Martinez came off the bench in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Bolivia and Inter Milan will be glad he wasn’t flogged for 90 minutes in that testing altitude. Francesco Acerbi and Stefano Sensi could be back fit having rested over the past two weeks as they both suffered muscle injuries before the break.

For AC Milan, their main Olivier Giroud was handed a break as France were beaten by Germany in a friendly, having led the line in the 2-0 win over Ireland. He’s been in fine goalscoring form this term and Stefano Pioli will be pleased his squad have come through the break unharmed.

Inter Milan to win

Both of these teams have made intriguing summer signings, with Inter bringing in Marcus Thuram and AC Milan signing the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic. Both sides have made perfect starts to the season with three wins out of three, with Inter yet to concede a single goal.

They thrashed Fiorentina 4-0 last time out, while AC Milan recorded an impressive 2-1 victory away at Roma after Fikayo Tomori was sent off. However, last season in the Champions League semi-final, Inter Milan destroyed their closest rivals and we can expect to see the home side narrowly edge this one.

Backing a team that haven’t conceded a goal yet so far this season to win seems like the sensible option, even though they are facing one of the top teams in the entire division. With the majority of fans on their side, Inter can come out victorious.

Lautaro Martinez to score 2+

There’s not a lot that catches the eye in this market, but what we do have is a couple of elite attackers on the pitch. Giroud has hit four goals already, and is on fire for Milan, but he has been outdone so far this season by Martinez, who has scored five goals in just three games.

He scored twice in the 4-0 win over Fiorentina, is averaging a goal every 52 minutes and has scored five from just 13 shots this season. His clinical nature and the quality of this Inter team should present him with chances, and given he is their key goalscorer backing him to score twice at 10/1 feels like the right choice.
