Overwhelmed by emotion, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner n couldn’t hold back her tears and burst into tears on her way out of the field. The immense distress of this sacred football monster has touched many fans around the world.

A few hours later, the native of Madeira spoke via his social networks to share his state of mind after this failure. “Winning the World Cup with Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career.[… ] I never gave up on this dream but sadly yesterday the dream ended“, in particular wrote the former star of the Bernabeu during a long message published on instagram.

Cristiano Ronaldo at Euro 2024?

If this text could look like a kind of farewell, the reality would actually be more complex. According to information from the Portuguese media Noticias, the top scorer in the history of the Champions League would indeed not intend to give up the national team. If the 2026 World Cup seems unattainable, the next edition of the Euro would remain a goal for CR7. In 2024, Cristiano Ronaldo will be 39 years old.

For the record, the title of the oldest player to have played in a European Nations Championship so far belongs to Lothar Matthäus (39 years and 91 days during Euro 2000). If Cristiano Ronaldo has always distinguished himself by an exceptional physical form and an exemplary lifestyle, the question of his professional future seems however to pose a problem. As of this writing, the former Reds Devils striker is indeed a player without a club.
