Granary Queen can claim the crown

There’s a cracking Betfred-supported card at the famous Epsom Downs on Friday 18 August, with the first of six races set to go off at 1.50 – while the concluding event is set for 4.45.

Below are a few tips for the occasion, including one in the sprint qualifier handicap at 15:00.

3.00 – Granary Queen @ 9/4

Count Otto is bidding for a hat-trick in the sprint handicap at 15:00 and Amanda Perrett’s course-and-distance winner is sure to be popular with punters. However, the son of Sir Prancealot is unlikely to be improving at the age of eight and Granary Queen looks the play.

Eve Johnson Houghton’s charge ran a cracking race when only narrowly denied at Brighton last time out and the five-year-old looked a winner in waiting on that effort.

Granary Queen finished third on her only previous run at this track and her liking for Brighton suggests she’ll be at home on the rolling downs of Epsom.

3.35 – Platinum Prince @ 7/2

Platinum Prince was a little disappointing at Windsor last time out, but Gary Moore’s runner was dropped a pound for that third-place finish, and a mark of 61 looks a workable one, given the six-year-old has scored off that rating in the past.

Platinum Prince appears to have a liking for downhill cambered tracks having scored at Brighton and Lingfield in the past and he’s also run with credit at Epsom and Bath.

The better ground and likely stronger pace will see Platinum Prince to better effect and the six-year-old can be backed to rule.

4.10 – Redredrobin @ 2/1

Redredrobin is a perfect two-from-two at Epsom, with the six-year-old scoring on the downs on his last two starts. The latest of those victories came 15 days ago, and while Malcolm Saunders’ charge has been nudged up three pounds for that win, this race doesn’t look any stronger than the one she scored in last time out.

Today’s forecast ground should be ideal for Redredrobin and she looks ready to land the hat-trick.
