Lens tames Rennes and regains second place at OM!

From the start, the Racing Club de Lens set up a big rhythm in the Rennes camp. On a free kick from Angelo Fulgini, Florian Sotoca quickly distinguished himself from the head (3rd). In the aftermath, Loïs Openda made the difference behind the Rennes defense, but fell on a solid Steve Mandanda (5th). A great alert which was followed by a new big opportunity. On a corner, Angelo Fulgini found Facundo Medina whose helmet shot was just slammed out of frame by the still heroic Steve Mandanda (9th). Lens had the upper hand and on a corner Kevin Danso saw his header escape the frame this time (12th). The Austrian still got a chance from a free kick, but his new header was off target again (14th). Lens maintained constant pressure and moved to the edge of the Rennes area in order to push his opponent into error. Eventually, what had to happen was happening. Seko Fofana pushed aside for Florian Sotoca whose cross from the right towards the far post found Loïs Openda. The Belgian did not need to be asked to score (1-0, 31st).

Led, Rennes finally reacted after this conceded goal. On the left, Arnaud Kalimuendo crossed low to the surface for Benjamin Bourigeaud. The shot without control of the latter at close range was repelled by Facundo Medina on the crossbar narrowly (33rd). What to warn Lensois who immediately put back the blue of heating. On the left, Premiszlaw Frankowski made the difference and crossed towards the far post where Loïs Openda saw his header go past the frame (41st). Immediately after, Rennes had one more ball to equalize with a cross from Benjamin Bourigeaud for Karl Toko Ekambi at close range, but the Cameroonian missed the target (42nd). Leading up to the break, Lens returned with the same intentions in the second half. Taking advantage of a ball floating in front of the Rennes surface, Florian Sotoca saw his shot being repelled by Steve Mandanda, one of the few Bretons to shine (49th). A few minutes later, Loïs Openda made the difference and crossed at the far post. Seko Fofana took the ball away from Angelo Fulgini and missed the target (53′).

Leading in the score, but not safe, Lens was still in Rennes’ sights and Arthur Theate’s cross header let out a sigh of relief in the northern defense when it finished its race to the right of the frame (57th). Slowly, Stade Rennais regained control and finally slowly managed to be more and more dangerous in this match. Alerted in depth, Arnaud Kalimuendo distinguished himself with a cross shot, but Brice Samba was impeccable in front of his line and maintained the Lensois advantage (70th). Just after, Lovro Majer put Amine Gouiri into orbit, whose shot did not find the target (71st). Lens held on until a goal from Warmed Omari following a corner, but the latter was in an offside position (87th). A hell of an alert for the Artésiens who held on and won 1-0. Lens climbs to second place in the championship and returns to six lengths behind the Parisian leader. Rennes has undoubtedly said goodbye to the Champions League on its side…
