OL dominate Grenoble and advance to the semi-finals

In bad shape in the league, OL have almost nothing left but the Coupe de France to save their season. The draw for this quarter-final even offered him a wide open door for the next round with the reception of Grenoble at Groupama Stadium. A formality on paper, we said, but the 7th in Ligue 2 was able to play the spoilsports. Laurent Blanc was not mistaken, moreover, by aligning the best possible of the moment at kick-off. Lukeba teamed up with Lovren at the hinge, protected by a Caqueret-Lepenant duo in between, while Barcola, Cherki and Jeffinho, for his first tenure, played in support of Sarr, alone at the forefront.

The start of the meeting showed some interesting promises from Les Gones. Dynamic, mobile and enterprising, the Lyon collective showed positive signs of wanting to play the game, even if it was Grenoble who offered themselves the first opportunity. Lopes contained Phaëton’s attempt (5′), and Cherki responded quickly (10′). The latter took the game on his own and participated in a successful left side. The leader shifted Taglifico, who put back towards Jeffinho, whose first strike did not catch the frame (21st). The next was the good one with this time the Brazilian in charge for the center of the Argentinian, who found the victorious header from Barcola (1-0, 24th).

A qualification in the semi-finals and new injuries

In the process, Lopes had to work again to prevent Meïssa Ba from equalizing (25th). Despite this slight hiccup, OL continued to dominate and just missed the goal of the break. Cherki and Jeffinho exchanged again for Barcola’s header pushed back by Salles (28′), who won his duel in front of Amin Sarr, perfectly served behind the defense (29′). The Grenoble goalkeeper ended up losing all the same. Still on the left side, Taglifico found Jeffinho who finished with a flat foot for his first goal with his new club (2-0, 37th). OL even failed to kill the game but Sarr (41st) and Jeffinho (45th) missed their opportunities.

Until then, the evening seemed perfect but on returning from the locker room Jeffinho (probably because of his celebration, 46th) and Barcola (54th) were out injured. Salles also gave way to the usual holder Maubleu after Dembélé stepped on his knee on this wasted opportunity (60th). Grenoble took advantage of this moment of hesitation to offer themselves a highlight, forcing Lopes to bring out the big game against Sanyang, then replaced by Lukeba (73rd). A deadline simply delayed since on the following action, Sbaï took advantage of this ball in withdrawal countered by Caqueret to revive the Isérois (2-1, 74th). Maubleu maintained this hope against Dembélé (76th) and Sarr (84th) but that was not enough. OL resisted and won to reach the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.
