Spain make a decent start against Norway, Wales snatch a draw in Croatia

The Euro 2024 qualifiers continued this Saturday evening with three new confrontations on the program. For their entry into the running in Group A with their new coach Luis De la Fuente, Spain notably received Norway in Malaga. As a reminder, earlier in the day, Scotland had outclassed Cyprus (3-0) in this same group. For this match and the next against Georgia, the Norwegians, for their part, could not count on their superstar Erling Haaland, injured in the groin. Unsurprisingly, the Spaniards immediately took control of the game and the ball. Alvaro Morata’s teammates found the fault on the first chance of the game. After a game reversal, Alex Balde sent a center shot perfectly deflected by Dani Olmo who opened the scoring (13th, 1-0).

The Stale Solbakken players reacted immediately, but Martin Odegaard was blocked in extremis by Rodri (15′) then Fredrik Aursnes made Kepa Arrizabalaga shine with a volley at the far post (29′). When they returned from the locker room, Spain regained control of the game with the same determination as at the start of the match. Dani Carvajal made a love from the outside, but Iago Aspas missed his header and Orjan Nyland could grab the ball (50th). After these few minutes to the advantage of the Spaniards, the Norwegians did not let themselves be defeated and resumed their march forward. On a strike from Marcus Pedersen, the ball bounced off Nacho who was on the verge of deceiving his own goalkeeper (56th) then on the corner, Dani Carvajal released the ball in disaster in front of Sander Berge (57th).

At the hour mark, the rhythm of the match fell slightly and the two teams were more cautious. Despite this, Dani Ceballos sent a laser pass to Yeremi Pino who could not find the frame to make the break (75th). While Alexander Sorloth, alone at the far post, missed the target and the equalizer (80th), Joselu made everyone agree for his first with La Roja only a few minutes after coming on. Espanyol Barcelona scored twice and sealed the match (84th and 86th, 3-0). Thanks to this victory, Spain joins Scotland at the top of group A.
