  • The Argentina U20 international has penned a five-year deal with the club
  • He becomes Spurs’ second addition of the day after defender Micky van de Ven

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of striker Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central in a move believed to be worth around £12million.

The 19-year-old has agreed a five-year contract and the transfer includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

He is Ange Postecoglou’s second signing of the day after defender Micky van de Ven, who completed his £43m move from Wolfsburg earlier.

Part of the Argentina U20 team, Veliz was also a target for Nottingham Forest, but it is Spurs who have secured his services after opening talks last week.

The young forward broke into Rosario Central’s team in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength since, bagging 11 goals in 23 outings this season.

The deals bring Tottenham’s total number of incomings this summer to six.

Last week they brought in Blackburn defender Ashley Phillips on a five-year deal for £2m.

That followed the signings of James Maddison for £45m, Dejan Kulusevski for £25m, and Manor Solomon on a free.

The club are set play to Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy tonight and it has emerged that Harry Kane will not take part.

He has urged a quick resolution to the saga involving himself, Spurs, and his suitors Bayern Munich.

Tottenham rejected a ‘final’ bid of £86m from the Bavarian giants on Monday but it is understood that they will return with another offer.

The 30-year-old has set a personal deadline of Sunday, when Spurs meet Brentford in their Premier League opener, for the clubs to thrash out any deal.

He will commit to Spurs for the year ahead if a transfer is not completed by then.
